Sonic (ソニック) or Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most famous video game characters in the world.
Published by Sega, it is also present in series derived from comics, cartoons and films.
The first Sonic video game, Sonic the Hedgehog, was released on June 23, 1991, with the goal of giving Sega a mascot that can rival that of their Nintendo competitor, Mario.
In 2005, Sonic was the first character inducted into the Walk of Game, along with Link and Mario.
Initially confined to platform games, Sonic has since been introduced to other styles such as racing (Sonic R), pinball (Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball), or fighting (Sonic The Fighter) and even with his rival Mario.
